Review : Motorola Moto G

Review : Motorola Moto G

Motorola Moto G

Motorola Moto G - Here it is a phone that is very awaited by many people, the Motorola Moto G. Although the brothers with Moto X, originally specialized in regional American and new start shipping to Europe without clarity to other regional, Moto G which has a shape similar to a price much more Cheap first walk around the world. Phones that can be said to be cheap but not cheap it has qualified specification, and of course with Google shaded (the time of manufacture) this phone is running on the latest Android Kitkat with the possibility of ongoing updates (maybe). Please read the full review below.

Design

The design of the handset Moto G is fairly 11-12 with Moto X, only a little different accents, body thicker and more weight. Moto G has dimensions of 129.9 x 65.9 x 11.6 mm and weighs 143 grams. Carrying the curvy design, of course Moto G is very comfortable. In addition, the material used is made entirely of plastic, and to the rear using the coarse rubberised matte texture that is not slippery, but easily leave spots if sweaty hands. Motorola claims that this handset will withstand splashes of water, because the water-repellent material (water is down).

The face filled with a front camera, a notification LED color (white), earpiece, proximity sensor and light, 4.5-inch screen. The back is filled with speakers, the main camera, LED flash. For the SIM card slot is located behind the back cover. Our review unit using XT-1033 series 8GB (Dual SIM).

The left side of the phone is filled with the lock / power, and volume up and down. The upper part is filled with a 3.5mm headset port and coupled with the mic, while the bottom is filled with the microUSB port and a mic.

Moto G has a screen measuring 4.5 inches with a resolution of 720p HD with the size and number of high resolution, Moto G is able to provide the depth of pixels to 329 pixels. The screen is also protected by glass from Corning Gorilla Glass that has extra durability against scratches. The screen also looks no gap with glass coating, so the wide viewing angles and colors are consistent.

Interface

Moto G runs on Android 4.3 Jelly bean is currently out of the box, but immediately available updates 4.4.2 Kitkat.

Having migrated to the latest version of Android, the appearance of the interface has not changed much, the most visible only in the lockscreen into a camera shortcut icon to the right under, the bar where the function keys into a black to transparent gradient and appearance icons are slightly changed, the rest looks the same. Therefore, given the lack of customization Motorola, experience gained be like Nexus, where fast performance and smooth, but only standard android alone.

Page lockscreen support the use of widgets provided. A shortcut to the camera also becomes redundant which can be accessed with a swipe to the left or use the camera icon is displayed. For access to Google Now also simply swipe upwards. Sign in to your homescreen will be presented five fixed number of pages. Here is the place to put the various widgets, shortcuts, or folders.

Notification window as Android 4.3, available fast access to various menu settings via the icon in the upper right. Go to the apps drawer, with a standard zoom is also divided into two categories for apps and widgets and shortcuts to Play Store. The icons are arranged in a 5x4 formation accompanied by a solid black background. Because it is not available stock Android task manager, recent apps are only available only through dedicated keys which must swipe to turn it off one by one.

Camera

When another new phone already using 8MP main camera, Moto G was humbled by using a 5MP main camera with auto focus accompanied by LED flash. While the front camera 1.3MP resolution. The camera interface is modified by Motorola so it looks minimalist and even to remove the menu settings must use a swipe gesture on the left side of the screen to the right, while a swipe from right to left will go to the gallery.

Camera and video recording together in a single interface, menu setting is also used as one where there is a choice of HDR, flash, focus and exposure control, slow motion mode for recording, panoramic, location, aspect ratio, and the sound of the shutter. To perform shooting burst simply hold the screen. Making process initially focus automatically, but quite difficult object properly locked in close quarters, fortunately Motorola provides the option where there is such a focus control slider to adjust the screen where the point of view finder who want to focus on.

Results from the camera for indoor shooting looks good with a natural color, sharp and detailed enough. For outdoors though colouration rather cold but the sharpness is quite good, unfortunately less detail for distant objects.

When you are recording a video, you can simultaneously take pictures. Because of the lack of regulation then inevitably you have to do video recording in HD 720p resolution. There are interesting features that slow motion even though the results are not as good as the iPhone 5S, but passable for variation.

Other

Browser
Not surprisingly Chrome the default browser in the Moto G. Browser performance is certainly can be no doubt. Provided that adequate internet connection, then the web pages of the mobile version to the desktop version can be displayed properly and quickly. With an unlimited number of tabs, and synchronization with other devices that also use Chrome, not surprisingly user likes this browser. Especially with the new improvements such as the use of data reduction mode, is suitable for users who frequently surf but would not quickly exhausted its quota.

Because the screen is sharp and of good quality, then with 4.5-inch screen size is not a problem reading a web page in zoom out conditions for the majority of the content is still readable.

FM Radio
Yes, up to now this one feature is not left behind. Through FM radio you can listen to your favorite radio station of course with a headset plugged in advance. Unfortunately there is no option to listen via speaker so would not want to listen through the headset.

Gallery
This is where you find a collection of photos and videos stored in memory. Unfortunately for the 8GB version of memory that can be used only 5.5GB for media affairs just so you can not store a lot of content. Appearance Gallery gets a change after the update Motorola Gallery, where the content displayed is divided into the Camera Roll, Timeline, and Album. For image processing available standard tools such as crop, rotate, filters, frames, and more.

There is no dedicated application to play the video, so the only way is through the current default conditions Gallery. Here there is a lot of video formats are supported, recorded FLV, MOV, MKV, AVI can not be played. But can be overcome by using a third party application. But for MP4 to FullHD resolution even with a high bitrate play properly.

Music Players
Through the latest Google Play Music you can listen to your favorite song chant. Yes, because of memory limitations would only have a favorite song that you enter. The quality of sound output via the headset sounds good, especially you can manipulate with customization options as you wish. This customization can be applied either to a headset or speakers, but the effect is not too pronounced for setting the speakers. Although located behind but as part of the arch, if put on the flat surface of the sound is not muted, but another thing if you put it on the mattress / soft surface, the sound output will be muted.

Connectivity

Motorola Moto G runs on quadband GSM network 850/900/1800/1900 and HSDPA Quadband 850/900/1800 / 2100. For local connectivity there is WiFi 802. 11 b / g / n, Bluetooth v4.0, A-GPS GLONASS, microUSB v2.0.

As we mentioned before, the points dropped Moto G is the problem of the availability of memory especially the 8GB version. Indeed, the phone is priced cheap, but if the price rose slightly to provide a memory card slot would be more fun (compared provides features Dual SIM). With the operating system takes up about 2.5GB then just 5.5GB that can be used by the user to store a variety of content and applications. Fortunately there are alternatives, namely via a USB connection On The Go. Although it requires you to purchase an additional cable accessories again.

Battery Life

Moto G is equipped with a Lithium Ion battery non-removable 2070mAh who claimed sufficient size to support the phone all day. When we tried to play the video in screen brightness automatically, without cellular connection WiFi only 1 hour duration spent batteries 8%, so if it is used to play videos continuously Moto G can last up to 12 hours. Pretty impressive.

Excess
  • Latest Android today (Kitkat)
  • smooth performance
  • clear screen
  • Affordable

Shortage
  • Limited memory
  • Resolution of the camera a bit behind

Conclusion

Claimed an affordable price, with qualified specifications in its class, first-quality clear screen, do not miss the latest Android version is superior points that draws the eye to glance at it. In terms of design and materials are also quite good. No doubt the name of Motorola and Google became a big name as a guarantor of the continuity of assistance these phones in the future. One thing that makes the prospective buyer feel is a problem that is not available memory microSD slot.
